Black & Decker AF-100-3ZP String Trimmer Replacement Spool With 30-Feet Of .065-Inch Line - 3 Pack
Customer Review: A better value than I expected
I really hesitated before purchasing a cordless Black & Decker weed eater, in part because of the automatic-feed string system. I've owned my cordless Black & Decker NST2018 string trimmer for a few years now, and have had no problems with either the machine itself, or these associated string replacement spools. The price of this string may seem high, but Amazon has consistently beat the prices of local retailers. Amazingly, a 3-pack lasts at least one year of moderate weekly use. With this product, I can replace string in only a few seconds and with no cursing needed.
Customer Review: Incorrect product for edger
Incorrect item. The spools were supposed to be the double stringed ones for a newer grass hog edger.

Troy-Bilt TB525CS 17-Inch 29cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Clutched Curve Shaft String Trimmer
The question, then, is whether you're willing to put up with a little more weight or sacrifice some HP in order to have a clean, quiet cut. (In some states, this decision may already have been made for you-there seems to be a trend toward mandating that two-cycle engines be retrofitted with catalytic converters.)
If the answer is yes, then Troy-Bilt's 29 cc curve-shaft trimmer is a great option. At 13 pounds it's lighter than older four-cycle models, and it has a wide 17-inch cutting swath. It features "SpringAssist" starting, which means you don't have to yank on the pull-cord-a slow and steady pull will get the thing started. This trimmer is well-balanced, and the curved shaft and adjustable D-handle make for comfortable use. Like most trimmers, this one includes a bump-head line release; Troy-Bilt's "SpeedSpool" system means quick, easy line replacement. As an added bonus, it's compatible with interchangeable Troy-Bilt attachments, too.
Overall, a powerful trimmer that's comfortable to use, clean, and quiet. Two-year limited warranty. For a comparable trimmer with a straight shaft, see Troy-Bilt's model #TB575SS.--Josh Dettweiler

Customer Review: line feed has issues
I purchased this trimmer from a local Lowe's & don't know if the problems I encountered was a Troy-Bilt or a Lowe's problem. I suspect that it's both. The trimmer started with some effort, but once running it was powerful & worked well UNTIL I had to change the line, then the trouble started. I followed the directions very carefully & every time the line started to advance ON ITS OWN (not bumping the head at all) & in 1 minute the line was all gone. I tried to restring several times but no luck. Took it back to Lowe's & got the lame excuse "I'm not familiar with that head" & got put into another TB trimmer (the TB514CS). That trimmer also had line feed issues with similar results from Lowe's (see my review of that trimmer on this site & the Troy-Bilt site). I have had great results from a Homelite 2-cycle trimmer that I have used for many years, replacing the string on the spool and all with no problems, so it's not like I'm inexperienced with trimmers & lawn equipment. So now I have no working trimmer & will definitely try a different retailer. The manager at Lowe's got an earful however.
Customer Review: Line feed was a problem
Bought this one at Lowes 3 weekends back. Starting the trimmer was a very smooth operation. Just followed the procedure exactly the way they had described. It vibrates quite a bit, but you get used to it. After exactly 3 feet of trimming the string broke. I tried bumping the head to release the line but that didn't do anything. Opened the head to find out that the string had welded inside to the plastic and wouldn't move. So had to remove and wind both the strings again. After about 20 feet more the string gave way again. Again, followed the instructions to release the line, by bumping it on the surface, didn't work. I opened the head again and found out this time the string was just stuck and wouldn't move. After about an hour of fighting around I gave up. Started the trimmer the next weekend and had to stop 3 times to fight with the string release. On the 4th try, I emptied the gas tank, drove back to Lowes, and got my money back. I am now again on a lookout for a 4-cycle trimmer.

Yard Machines 17-Inch 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Curved Shaft String Trimmer #3100M
Customer Review: yard machine y780 trimmer
This is not the exact same trimmer that is for sale here so there may be differences, but this might provide insight. First of all be sure to keep your receipt, they won't even look at it with out a receipt. I have a yard machine Y780 string trimmer and I am very displeased with the product and the service. After just a few weeks of use the pull start cord failed to engage. I have owned several other trimmers and never had this problem. I contacted the 800 number on the trimmer and they directed me to a very rude repair man that said that is just wear and tear and they won't fix it anyway. The whole product is poorly desinged: the only thing you should ever have to replace is the cord, which is impossible to get at. The flywheel that engages the starter is plastic. Of all the parts that should be metal this is the one. I might add that I have a Club Cadet lawn tractor that is also made by MTD and I absolutely love it.
Customer Review: Basic trimmer
Bare bones machine- I will wait to see if it is reliable. Starting procedure is ridiculous but it seems to run well. Packaging was all beat up and taped closed.... appeared to have been opened before. It seems all the E retailers like to pawn off their store returns by mail.

Black & Decker NST2036 Heavy-Duty 36-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer
Customer Review: Excellent move from a Ryobi
After my 15-years-plus Ryobi finally faltered (plastic fuel lines crumbled) I decided I would not accept the vibration, noise, and pollution of another gasoline-powered trimmer (I blame my Raynaud's condition on the Ryobi). I did actually buy a smaller, lighter-duty B&D cordless trimmer before buying the NST2036, and that is now my backup, until I can spring for a 2nd battery for the NST2036. The NST2036 is a really nice, well-built, smooth, solid machine. It handles the same jobs as my old heavy-duty Ryobi did, but with no pollution and much less noise, but still some vibration. Yes, I feel battery life is always too short, but I can stage large jobs to accommodate that. I have heard of issues with this machine stopping unexpectedly, but when it has happened to me, it has either been solved by reseating the battery or is an indication I have used all the charge and the battery needs recharging. I look forward to many happy years of use of this machine. Of course, paying just under $150 for a machine that listed at over $450 has helped me work through learning about the unexpected stops....
Customer Review: Powerfull
More powerfull than I thought, since it's electric. The battery is also very long lasting. I trimm my 4100 ft every week and I charge it every other time. I'm very happy with it.

Troy-Bilt 17-Inch 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered String Trimmer #TB10CS
When it's time to replace the line, the line replacement system is exceptionally easy to load and rewind, all without removing the spool or taking it apart. The entire trimmer feels exceptionally balanced and comfortable in the hand, and the ergonomic soft-grip D-shaped handle easily adjusts for both right and left-handed users. The trimmer comes with all the necessary oil for immediate operation, and is covered by a 2-year limited warranty.
Customer Review: Does the job here very well!
I purchased this unit to trim native grass and weeds in my yard. The unit started right out of the box, ran well, and did a fine job. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Furthermore, Amazon.com does it well, delivers quickly and on time.
Customer Review: Didn't Meet Minimum Needs for a Trimmer
I bought one of these after my long time John Deere (Homelight rebranded) Trimmer had finally given up the ghost. First: I do not have a huge lot nor do I have a lot of heavy grass to contend with. My yard is pretty much the same as most suburban people and it requires a lot of weekly manicuring to keep up. This unit had a lot of difficulty in starting. You should only have to give a unit 3 pulls, with the choke on and properly primed, to start it. Right out of the box, it would start then quit. Start, then quit. Once it finally did warm up the trimmer never seemed to rev up to full speed as if it was starving for fuel. Flipping the trimmer upside down to edge the lawn (something a trimmer must be able to do) would most certainly starve the trimmer and quit. This system has a horrible fuel delivery design and can't even perform the basic needs of a trimmer. The rock guard, or whatever you want to call it, is too small. When trimming, this thing will blow stuff all over you! I don't know why they even put the rock guard on because I got beaten up every time I used it! I gave this thing the benefit of the doubt based on price but after 30 days I just couldn't take it anymore. If it has difficulty starting, can't edge because it starves out for fuel and the rock guard won't protect the operator from flying debris then it just becomes a miserable experience to use. I took it back and got a full refund without any questions.

Troy-Bilt TB20CS 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Curved Shaft String Trimmer With EZ-Link
Customer Review: Simple, Good Directions, Easy to handle.
I'm a woman in my 40's with less upper body strength than an average man has and I do have some trouble with gripping, but this trimmer is fairly easy to handle and starts reliably. My only trouble as a newbie was going in too fast and getting tall weeds wrapped around the base, so watch that. Read up on the directions for best use in tall stuff, get a shoulder strap or make one to balance the weight. I'm very happy with this trimmer after several uses.
Customer Review: I LOVE IT!
After two weeks of reading reviews, talking to friends, checking consumer reports, and comparing many different units, I finally decided on the Troy-bilt TB20CS. I bought it from Lowes for $98.99. When I got home, I put it together. Took about 10 minutes. I put gas into it and read the fairly easy starting instructions. It started right up. I took it behind the fence in my back yard and started chopping away. It works like a dream. Ten times better on the 3 foot high weeds, than my old electric trimmer. It's a little heavier than my electric, but not too bad. Great power, good balance. It's so well balanced, that sometimes I let go with my left hand and just held it with one hand. I told my wife I should have bought one of these ten years ago. All I can say is "I love it!"

Weed Eater .065-Inch by 100-Foot Bulk Round String Trimmer Line #952701533
Customer Review: Very Frustrating
I really can't advise anyone to buy this product. Literally in the first minute of use after I installed it, I had to unscrew the spool and hand-feed the line at least 6 times. It broke over and over again, I got about 10 feet of my border done. I was only cutting grass I can't imagine that this line will hold up on weeds. If you are looking for .065 line, look elsewhere you will only be as frustrated as I am right now.

Tanaka Quiet String Trimmer Line .095-Inch x 230' #746570
Customer Review: I'm impressed
I bought this line for my Stihl weed eater hoping it would be at least as good as Stihl line. It's just as good as Stihl line. It may even be better. I paid $27 for my last roll of Stihl line. Considering the quality and durability, $27 was a real deal. I expect this new line to prove itself to be just as durable. I'm impressed. Rarely do I ever give a product a high mark. My annual income is under $8,000. I'm buying my own place and paying my own bills. I have to ration my food supply to 15 small meals per month. When I buy a product, I have to make a smart choice. Buying this line was a smart choice.
Customer Review: Look out weeds!
Man, oh, man. This string can tear through some grass, weeds, brush, ivy, or whatever you can throw at it. I am using an Echo trimmer and had been using the line provided with the Echo when I bought it. What a difference! My trimmer was eating everything in site and it was even quieter than before. Get this stuff!

Factory Reconditioned Ryobi 15-Inch 6 Amp Electric String Trimmer #ZRRY41002
Customer Review: Major Lack of Quality Control!
I received this trimmer not knowing what to expect from reading the other reviews of this product. The trimmer motor unit looked well used, maybe what one would expect after 1 week of use. My major disappointment was finding the lower trimmer attachment tube was crushed to the point it would not come close to attaching to the head unit. After discussing this with the CPO rep, they did not have a replacement to exchange but gave me the number of an authorized Ryobi dealer, whom seemed clueless with regard to the reconditioned warranty. I finally took matters into my own hands and reshaped the end with pliers and a screwdriver. It now fits! BTW, you will get a cert saying this product "..passed a rigorous series of tests"...BS! BTW the handle and guard included were new.
Customer Review: most ruggedize electric on the market
This electric trimmer has power and adaptability. Several attachment from even other machines will operate on the trimmer. Blower, Blade edger, & small tiller.I used my previous Ryobi electric for about 15 years.

Black & Decker GH600 Grass Hog 14-Inch 5-AMP Electric String Trimmer and Edger
Customer Review: DANGEROUS: Line auto advances too far, gets automatically cut, and may fly into your legs or face
My face was seriously cut (deep quarter inch gouge on my left cheek) by the excess advanced line snippet. The Black and Decker Grass Hog automatically advances the line (versus punching down on the head), however too much line is advanced and a 2-4" snippet flies off and may hit your legs or face depending on the swivel setting of the Grass Hog. I am returning it immediately. For my health, I will never use this machine again. Please be aware of the risks of this machine.
Customer Review: The Best Yet!
I waited quite a while before writing a review since I have used several gas and electric trimmers and edgers over the years. I must honestly say this is, without one doubt, the very best one I have ever had. The line lasts much longer (each spool) than I predicted. I am a fanatic regarding my lawn and grass and I could not recommend a trimmer more than this!! I am trilled. No tangles, no line breaks, easy-simple-a no brainer to use. Light weight but powerful. I hope they make this one for many years because I have finally found a lightweight, powerful, and effective trimmer. I am more than a believer!

Yard Man YM132 15-Inch 5.2 Amp Electric Straight Shaft String Trimmer With EZ-Link Detachable Shaft
Customer Review: yardman- 137
It's durable & powerful w/5.2 amp motor, yet light. Has worked fine for 2 years. My property is big -- I use a 100 ft power cable.Reloading string is easier than my hard start Ryobi gas unit. I use bulk .095 string. Bump feed is reliable. This is a better product than wimpier, low amp electrics. Surprisingly, Yard-man no longer makes or sells electric string trimmers. That's a bummer, as I'd like a source of wear-out parts in the future. They act like they never heard of the -137 & same for the -132
Customer Review: Beware, I got a Ryobi
I ordered this through Amazon - well - an affiliate of theirs, I guess, and what I got was a Ryobi brand trimmer with a curved shaft. I was desperate at the time, so tried it out and am actually very happy with it. I don't know if Ryobi makes trimmers anymore, but given the bad review of this one, you might want to look for a Ryobi.

Ariens (22") Roll-Around Gas String Trimmer - ST622
Customer Review: Not Bad - Seems Pretty Sturdy
I've used a lower quality wheeled Poulan trimmer VERY extensively for several years. Ended up virtually destroying it through hard use. Purchased the Ariens from Home Depot and found it to be very good quality and apparently much more durable. I am 6' tall and the handle is much too low at longest setting and awkwardly shaped. Other gripe is that this model is difficult to change string because you can not simply tilt the trimmer back onto the handle to raise the string head due to a large head angling handle sticking out at the rear. You have to turn the machine onto its side/wheel. In this orientation, gas and/or oil sometimes (not too often) can leak out. Last gripe is that the cutting height is NOT easily adjustable. You have to get a socket and remove the cutting head, then add or remove bushings, then replace head. Probably a a more durable solution in the long-term though. Otherwise, it's a great functioning machine all things considered. None of the competing models is really any better overall.

Poulan 810EPT 9 Amp Electric String Trimmer and Pole Chain Saw Combo with 8-Inch Bar and 9-Foot Reach
As a pruner, its very aggressive chain-saw head will slice through a six-inch branch with just light, steady pressure. It's lighter than we expected, and all its weight is borne on the left shoulder, while you control the trigger with your right hand. The resulting balance is comfortable and secure.
Since it's electric, there's obviously no pull cord to yank on, something those with shoulder problems or those without some upper body strength will really like. Your extension cord is all that's needed.
But perhaps the best feature of this nifty pruner is the fact that it converts easily to a shed full of power garden tools. The optional attachments are reasonably priced, and you can pick up a string trimmer head for edging, scalping unwanted growth and even mowing where you can't maneuver your lawnmower; a blower to clear away leaves and grass clippings; and a cultivator to get the weeds out of your vegetable rows.
It would be a great addition to the lawn care professional's arsenal, and it's perfect for the do-it-yourself homeowner. All we ask is that you wear appropriate safety gear, including ear protection (it's loud), safety glasses and long sleeves and pants. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Customer Review: Zip Zip and your done.
I needed to trim some branches away from the wires. Also I want to trim back a tree to keep the roots from getting into my sewer pipe and costing me the $1500 it cost to dig that up and fix it. I talked to some young people into climbing up the tree with a ladder and triming it with whatever we could find. They said they would do it sometime, but the job never seemed to get done. Then I bought the Poulan Pole Saw because Poulan has alway had a very good reputation, even 30 years ago. As it turned out the rig was a little heavy for me. Still the very next person I talked to, I handed them the saw and zip, zip it was done. They were done a lot quicker then if we had stood around and talked about it. Also, he did not even charge me anything. He just went to brag to his girl friend about trimming the tree and she was impressed so everyone was happy. Next time a young person shows up I will hand him the Poulan and let them do some more trimming on other trees. It is very quick and easy. In fact they think it is fun, they like to use the saw. It is amazing how fast and easy this saw is if you have the strength to use it.
Customer Review: Another negative vote for this product
Same kind of plastic shaft coupling failure that others have experienced. Same run-around from local Poulan repair shop. Same frustrating experience from Poulan trying to get warranty replacement (they finally did replace the unit). The product is good -- while it works. But anything more than what you can cut with a manual pole pruner (~1") seems to overload the shaft coupling. I'm afraid to use the tiller attachment becasue it seems like it would be a much heavier load on the coupling. This must have been designed by the Poulan CEO's idiot son and no one has guts enough to fix it.
